All the news that is news…

We got a new member of the family over the weekend.  Toby came to live with us.  He’s a black and tan smooth 4-year-old male.  He’s paralyzed in his back legs, so he uses a little cart to get around.  He doesn’t have any bowel or bladder control, so we’re getting used to having to do that for him.  He’s the cutest little guy – with a BIG BARK.  But he’s so sweet.  He was dumped a high-kill shelter in Iowa, so Steve and I drove over to get him on Sunday.

The weather absolutely sucked for about 4 days.  Rain, thunder, rain, more thunder, tornados all around us, more rain, more thunder.  We had over 7″ of rain.  I couldn’t find my camera when we went to Des Moines (drat) but the fields all looked like lakes over there.  Not ponds, lakes.  It’s going to be a while before any planting gets done, I think.

Hellooooooo Monday!

I’m glad to have this weekend be over! It was just one of those weekends from hell!  Steve is sick, Meghan had a friend stay over Friday and Saturday (although that really wasn’t a bad thing, it’s not like she’s 10 or anything), and I had to work.

The days seem to draaaaaag when you have to work on the weekend.  I feel like I haven’t done anything besides work and sleep.  Wait, maybe I haven’t!  After I couldn’t sleep last night, which makes for a stinking long night, I worked from 1:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. tonight.  I know I left lots of stinky dictation for the other girls, too, for which I sincerely apologize, but you should have seen, or rather HEARD, some of the dictation that I did do!  Yikes!  I did get over 1000 lines both days, so I actually did a lot of work, it wasn’t one of those head-banging weekends where you work and work and check the line count to find out you’ve only done 500 lines!  Those days are really bad!

My soon-to-be-a-daddy nephew found a ring for his girlfriend this weekend, he’s pretty excited about it.  I’m glad for him.  I hope things work out.  Soon-to-be-mommy wasn’t feeling so well this weekend, so she’s staying with her parents untl the baby is born.  They moved up the due date from April 11 to April 1 at the last ultrasound.  STBM makes me ill, I don’t think she’s gained 20 pounds.  Ugh.  When I was pregnant, I looked pregnant!

My niece was sick this weekend with the nasty stomach flu. Poor Bitchsister – I wasn’t ever good with puking kids, even when they were mine!  I hope those germs don’t find my house.  Steve’s just had the body aches, temperature and chills.  I don’t want that either, but that’s much preferred over barfing.  Ewwwww.

I got my prednisone sweat shirt on Friday.  I love it.  And it just suits me to a T!  Haha!  Check out, they have some cool stuff there, even if you don’t have lupus you can make a donation.

I also got my Super Scrabble game!  Whoo!  Meg and I played a game Saturday afternoon, but I haven’t had time to play again.  I was hoping to get a game in today, but no such luck.  Darn.  I’m a Scrabble addict, although I’m not very good at it.  I have to get a Scrabble dictionary so I can read it and bone up on some really obscure words…

Okay, I’m too tired to think now.  Maybe I’ll sleep tonight.  Have a good week!

Being on call sucks and other thoughts from the weekend

I’m on call this weekend for the first time since starting to work for the hospital.  From midnight on Friday until midnight on Sunday.  Which, for the normal person would probably not be a problem.  However, I don’t sleep.  I think I’ve mentioned this about 10,000 times, but I have to have Ambien to sleep.  I’ve been up since 4:30 Friday afternoon.  I’m so tired I can’t see straight.  I’ve taken a couple breaks because I felt tired.  However when I take the opportunity to go downstairs, thaw out by the woodstove, and catch a nap, I sleep for all of about 20 minutes.  Eh.  I’m planning on taking an Ambien tonight and to heck with it.  Of course it’s slippery outside, snowing/sleeing, whatever,  which means there will probably be a car accident or two after the bars close and the hospital calling needing an H&P because the patient is going into surgery.  I’ve told Steve he’ll have to get up with me to make sure I don’d nod off at the keyboard.  And only the HIPPA regulations are keeping me from letting him read anything I may type to make sure it makes sense.

Cold. Too freaking cold.  I know, it’s Nebraska in January, but what a cruel joke to play when it’s been so nice and warm all season.  If we have to have cold can’t we at least have snow?  A lot of snow.  Enough to close down work for everybody through Tuesday at least.  Not gonna happen.  Seems the Weather Channel was right after all.  Grrrrr…   Although it isn’t really a surprise.  (Note to self, move to Denver before next winter.)

Anyway, I’m sitting here with a blanket over my lap and my space heater on, and Steve’s Leinenkugal cap on my head to keep the heat in (hey, it could work).  But my fingers and toes are still numb.  I’m going to give up and go to bed.  Being on call sucks.

Wow! I can’t believe people do this for all the time!

Get up for work in the morning, I mean.  I’ev been driving to Fremont this week to work – getting up at 6 a.m.   I think the last time I was up at 6 a.m. it was because I hadn’t gone to bed yet!  I’m not a daytime person!  I can’t believe I did this for years and years.   I can’t believe anybody does this!  I love the job though, or I will as soon as I get used to this bunch of doctors, all over again.  Poor Tami will be pulling her hair out, though.  LOL  I can’t type with this stupid keyboard, I had to take my ergonomic one to the hospital, so all I have is the one that came with my computer.  Plus, WordPress is acting funky tonight and is slower than the devil, so I’ll write more this weekend.

Just because you’re not paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you

Today begins my last week working for the national company.   They’re out to get me.   I ddn’t have a single good dictator tonight.  *sigh*  I swear, sometimes I feel like they save the crap dictators until late at night.   Continue reading

Have I mentioned lately that I hate my freaking job?

In case I haven’t, medical transcription sucks.  I’m sitting here pounding my already arthritic fingers to the bone with trying to listen to these people who makes a hell of a lot more money than me and can’t think for a hill of beans.   Every single report I’ve typed today (9 so far) has been coded in as the wrong type of report, so the wrong template will come up if I don’t change it.  A couple of times they don’t even tell me what it is they’re dictating, I have to figure out what it is by what they’re saying.  Now I’ve got a dictation over 10 minutes long by an Asian doctor (so she has an accent), dictating on her cell phone (so there’s static and it keeps fading in and out) and there’s (probably) a kid banging away doing piano practice in the background.   Did I mention I only make about 9-1/2 cents a line for this?  Most days I only do a maximum of 1000 lines – good days, with good dictators.  Do the math.  I’m not going to get rich doing this.  Or get new living room drapes either.  lol  (I have to laugh or I’ll cry.)  Back to work…
